I know I'm not FAT! Ive always been confident about my body, not to the point that I walk around naked all the time or turn up in midriff tops and booty shorts but I do have a confidence with my body as a result of my lifestyle and like everybody, I love to feel good.
Yesterday Day 1. 66.8kgs - Remember I have already lost 4.5kgs in 6 weeks so I must of been pretty tubby.
The reason I am embarking on this small body transformation is to feel better about myself atm, by tidying up my current nutrition and to give myself a few rules that I spend every day putting in place for my clients to help me feel better about myself during menopause.
Just a bit of history for you, 3 years ago I was told I was mid-menopause and 4-5 weeks ago I was told I was mid-menopause still. How long does this menopause thing last for??
As my clients already know, I never give out training programmes or nutrition plans which I could not do myself so I am doing this ketogenic nutrition plan again, using myself as a guinea pig so I can take my knowledge to another level of experience and and gain my own true life experience of the pitfalls that my clients may encounter in their own journeys. I have been doing Keto plans for over 10 years now. I love my carbs but carbs don't like me.. My body loves no carbs. I function better, look better, feel more energetic ( unless I haven't had enough fats cos then I feel crap), and even meals are easier. You just have to plan well.
I'm loving the choices we have now when taking on a Keto diet. When I did my first Keto plan 10 years ago, when I competed and won the Worlds and the Arnolds, the choices were not so great.I did the plans for 6 weeks for my competition training but I didn't allow myself the good fats which we know today are required and that would explain my lack of energy back then. NOTE: I can always tell when a client of mine has dropped their fats in an attempt to lose weight quicker. They have no energy and it does nothing at all for fat loss at all so please don't do this.
I am looking forward to blogging the first 2 weeks of this plan. Im lucky enough to have Marc doing this with me. Nothing like a partners support. It makes things so much easier.
MENOPAUSE: I have been having a few problems with menopause changes which I want to try to combat with the use of good healthy foods and supplements. Lack of sleep over the last 3 months - and I mean going weeks at a time with terribly interrupted sleep patterns, caused me to be extremely tired throughout the day.. I work 2 shifts per day at work. Starting my day at 5am every weekday and also an early Saturday morning meant I was sleeping for approx 3 hours per night soundly, then the other hours were spent lying awake, frustrated at not being able to sleep. I was literally wide awake from 2am onwards until it was time to get ready for work at 5am. By 9am tiredness would hit me and all I could think of was trying to get 30mins shut eye in the afternoon when I have a few hours off - time which should be spent to do my run or get my never ending computer work done for the clients. It is always a tough choice, run, admin or sleep. Years ago, I would've headed out for my run regardless of the weather or how tired I was.
So as a result of dropping my running back to a couple of times per week, I gained weight. I don't eat bad.. I eat very clean and healthy but I was possibly getting too many calories from my good food, ( and wine I must admit) so tracking my macros has been excellent for me.
I have always been happy sitting at 65-66kgs but one day I had a client upset about her weight and I jumped on the scales to prove that we all put on weight sometimes. I was shocked. My weight had increased to 70.6 kgs. I freaked out unbeknown to her! I told my client there at the time and then I would Keto with her. I couldn't pull out of my promise so I started my running again (5-6 days per week for 30 mins a time) regardless of how tired I felt and stuck to my plan 100%. The last few weeks I added my rice cereal back into my breakfast as - well cos I love it..
So 6 weeks later I got myself down to 66.8kgs which is where I was yesterday at my weigh in at the beginning of this keto cycle and feeling really good about myself.
I'm not saying a Ketogenic plan is for everybody, but after 3-4 days I noticed my face was not puffy and that is motivating looking at yourself and saying to yourself, wow my face looks a little better today. My body also felt so much lighter and I had no carb cravings at all, cos when there are no carbs there are no cravings. Somebody with high carb intake suddenly beginning a Ketogenic diet would experience cravings and side effects which are called Keto Flu but they are short lived.. 3-4 days only..
Along with being on the Ketogenic plan, I introduced Clinicians Menopause Balance and although I did not notice a difference straight away, gradually my sleeping improved. At the moment I am sleeping most nights through the night but still do have the odd night of being up and down or staying up not being able to sleep but they are not even worth complaining about compared to what my nights used to be like.
Here is a few pics of Marc's meals and mine from yesterday. 'Marc is doing this plan with me. Not too sure how long he will stay on it as his body is a machine and can handle a hell of alot of calories, but this is a sample. I know they are not restaurant style meals but all my meals are quick and easy but nutritious.
I will be blogging almost daily to give you my results and experiences. I would love anybody to write to me of their experiences or tips as I am doing to to help everybody.
After 24 hours on the Keto I was down 500grams this morning - all water but its motivating to see the scales down.. I did the stairmaster yesterday but only for 20 mins but 300 calories down on that "mother". I love to run, Marc loves to walk on the treadmill watching Netflix. Whatever gets you exercising is all good.!
