Competition Wrap-up - The NABBA Counties Manukau 4.5.14

On Sunday we attended the NABBA Counties Manukau Event. I had 4 clients in this event, Nicola Gray (Open Physique) Jinna Griffin ( Novice Physique), Gladys Mathews ( Senior Figure) and Denver Chandy ( Open Men)
It was a brilliant day with all of my athletes doing well and proving to themselves and me that they are confident and motivated clients. The day didnt go without a few hitches, with Jinna being 1kg over the weight class for Novice Figure but that turned out a blessing in the end as she was very well suited for Physique and was one of the star attractions of the show.
The show was split in two with the prejuding beginning at 1pm and the evening finals starting at 6pm. Everything flowed pretty well except for another minor hitch for Jinna who was called to line up on stage with less than 5 mins notice. Her hair styling wasnt even finished and she was still not dreamed tanned. It was a rush of fevered excitement and frustation to get her bikinied up, hair quickly sorted and a quick coat of rollared on dream then and I mean quick as in hardly existant tan, but she hit the stage within minutes where she performed very well under the stress of it all. Jinna did not have anyone in her class which was a shame for her but being her first time on stage, she impressed everyone and we are all looking forward to seeing her compete again and show us what she has got to offer for the NABBA Nationals on October 25th in Palmerston North.
Gladys Mathews who you would of undoubtedly seen during one of her 70+ appearances on stage for various different federations competed and won her class of 4 in the Senior Figure. Gladys is one competitor who at 55-60 years old, nobody really knows her true age, is still improving with each competition, learning to push herself a little harder each time and coming into condition better with each event she does. Gladys is heading off to compete in an INBA event over in Australia in 3 weeks time so Im looking forward to seeing what she can bring to the stage for that one.

Nicola Gray is totally awesome. I'm almost tempted to turn this part into the Nicola Gray Fan Page cos her fans are everywhere. Nicola a mother of 2 with her youngest son being 2 years old and also has a supportive husband which we all know is totally necessary in this sport. Nicola works as a PT at Les Mills and she is a massage therepist as well. This event was Nicolas first competiton for 10 years. She has a brilliant physique and her stage presence is just gorgeous and I was very proud of her up there. She almost had it in the overall, and my opinion should of taken that title, but Im looking foward to seeing bigger and better things from Nic as she heads towards the NABBA Nationals also. Im definately looking foward to working with her for the remainder of the year and helping her to gain that Overall Title

I have been helping Denver Chandy with his nutrition since early 2012 now. Denver is also a PT but has recently taken time off work to focus on his sport. This boy has gone from strength to strength over the years that I have known him. At 24 years of age, he has an incredible physique which is still maturing. Denver took out the Overall title on Sunday and is going on to compete in the NABBA Nationals also where he will display an incredible physique. He is learning how to modify his last week of nutrition to hit it on the head for the biggie in October.
