The Year of Covid
Ok so we are now 1/4 way through 2021. Has it been as good for you as it is for me?. Its actually been pretty uneventful for me personally. I have spent the last 12 months missing my Melbs family to the point where sometimes I would spend days crying and anything would set me off. I wanted to see my grandson as I hadnt seen him for 6 month and of course the adult loves of my life.
This time last year we had began our 7 week Lockdown which came as quite a shock. So before our lockdown, we had my daughter staying with us as she was over from Melbourne for work. The plan was that when she left there she would fly to chch for some more work time then We would both jump on the plane and meet up at Melbourne airport. I was so excited at this stage as I was going over for Austin ( my grandsons 2nd birthday). I missed his first one so was so happy to be part of this one. However it was not to be. Jaimee my daughter had to leave Auckland, no Chch trip and fly straight home to Melbs. Over the next couple of days I still thought naivvely that I may still get to Melbourne but of course not, the world was in a mess.
So on March the 13th Melboune went into lockdown. Nz only 6 cases at the time so although our numbers were almost nothing compared to the other parts of the world there was of course concerrn by us all. On the 26th March Level 4 started with approx 200 positive covid cases. The whole of NZ went mad stocking up on Toilet paper, food, alchohol etc. It was a crazy time. So began our 7 week home holiday.
But we got through it and its quite amazing how quickly the time went to tell the truth. I never go bored. That is when I started my furniture upcycling. Marc and I had a transformation challenge going with our clients so that kept things interesting.
During this time I got into Tictok also. A client of ours always used to talk about it so when I checked it out I didnt really understand it so just ended up using effects and Marc and I would do funny stuff with it. After a week I was pretty much addicted to that also.
The rest of the year was very weird. The thought that we could get thrown into lockdown at any time was always there. Clients were pretty good during this long lockdown. I think some were even more motivated then normal. One client I had lost 13kgs over the lockdown, but others average 3kgs fat gain and of course muscle loss.
